Leon Camier signs for Crescent Suzuki
Laber! Is ja der Hammer! Hopkins doch in die GP zu Gresini?
Wieso?
Kein Woat fon di Hillowitsch!?!Crescent Suzuki has announced the first of its World Superbike signings: Englishman Leon Camier is to race for the British-based team in WSBK in 2012. The annoucement that Crescent would be switching to the World Superbike series from BSB earlier in October led to a flurry of speculation on riders. That Camier should be signed is not too much of a surprise: having a British rider on a British team is a no-brainer, and Camier's experience in WSBK is also welcome.
But it was a surprise that Camier would be the first rider to be announced. It was widely expected that John Hopkins would be the obvious choice for Crescent, the American having come within a few yards of winning the 2011 BSB title for the team this year. But with the MotoGP silly season still underway, Hopkins may be holding out for a seat in the premier class, the former Suzuki MotoGP rider still thought to be in the running for a seat with the LCR Honda team. If that falls through - looking ever more likely, as the seat is likely to be taken by Alvaro Bautista if Suzuki pulls out of MotoGP - then Hopkins will remain with Crescent and race in World Superbikes.![]()
Reigning World Supersport champion Chaz Davies and his ParkinGO team were testing World Superbike machinery at Portimao yesterday (Wednesday) - but with Aprilia rather than Ducati!
The news was broken by Motosprint.it, which reports that Aprilia is tempting the team by offering the same factory support allocated to the PATA team.
ParkinGO had been planning to run Ducati 1198s in WSBK next year, but the recent twin-cylinder weight change could also be a factor in testing the Aprilia.
Eugene Laverty, who tested with PATA after the 2011 season finale, was recently announced as riding for the official Aprilia Racing squad, alongside Max Biaggi.
However, PATA - which ran Noriyuki Haga this season - intends to continue and is said to be trying to sign MotoGP rider Randy de Puniet.
The new one-bike rule in WSBK might also mean an increase in 'official' bikes, depending on the amount of development for 2012.
